Jack Capers

is a partner in the Atlanta office of King & Spalding and a member of the firm’s Corporate Practice Group.

Mr. Capers has experience in a wide variety of corporate transactions, including domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, tender offers, exchange offers, spin-offs and divestitures, joint ventures, strategic alliances, strategic investments and leveraged buy-outs. In addition, Mr. Capers has advised boards of directors, board committees and investment banking firms on matters relating to corporate governance issues, M&A transactions and takeover defenses. His experience includes M&A transactions in a variety of industry groups, including technology, consumer products, retail, manufacturing, pharmaceutical/biotech, real estate, restaurants, telecommunications, textiles and transportation.

Mr. Capers served as leader of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice Group from 2003-2006. Mr. Capers served as deputy team leader of the firm’s Corporate Practice Group from 1995-2001. From 1992-1994, he served as the firm’s Hiring Chairman.

Mr. Capers was named one of The Best Lawyers in America 2012, one of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2012 by Chambers USA, and one of Georgia’s Super Lawyers 2012 by Atlanta Magazine.

Mr. Capers serves on the board of directors of the High Museum of Atlanta. He also serves on the board of directors of the Georgia Biomedical Partnership, an association of over 250 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies located in Georgia, on the board of advisors for the Atlanta Chapter of the Posse Foundation, a non-profit organization that identifies, recruits and trains youth leaders from Atlanta-area public high schools and sends them in groups of ten or “posses” to top 100 colleges and universities on full four-year scholarships, and on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Georgia. Mr. Capers also serves on the Regional Education Policy Committee of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Capers graduated from Vanderbilt University with high honors in 1975. He received his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1978, where he served as Articles Editor of the Georgia Law Review in 1977-78. He graduated from Georgia Law School with highest honors and was a member of the Order of Coif.
