James E. Delbello

Jim is a member of the Complex Litigation Group and focuses his practice on resolving a variety of complex litigation matters for his clients, including contract and licensing disputes, class actions, product liability, and mass and toxic torts matters, with an emphasis in the insurance and technology industries. Jim frequently serves as first chair or lead counsel in high-stakes bench and jury trials in state and federal courts across the country.

Previously Head of Business Law and Compliance, and Senior Vice President at a major insurance provider, Jim is familiar with the issues in-house counsel face, especially the impact of complex business issues and the adoption and compliance with emerging regulatory changes. He has represented financial services and insurance companies in class actions and other commercial disputes involving allegations ranging from alleged fraud and breach of contract in the sale of policies, failure to properly pay death benefits, improper denials of coverage for out-of-network benefits, and failure to provide statutory coverage for substance abuse treatment. He also represented policyholders and successfully prosecuted claims for indemnification and duty to defend, including claims for direct access to reinsurance.

Jim has further experience representing technology companies, and has represented clients in cases involving the licensing, functionality and implementation of enterprise resource planning software. He has also represented technology clients in disputes involving IT outsourcing agreements, naming rights agreements, and disputes involving theft of trade secrets or other confidential information.

Additionally, Jim has handled and tried numerous mass and toxic tort cases, including claims involving exposure to asbestos, benzene and other toxic substances.
