Jim is the former head of the firm's Litigation Department, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and Best Lawyers in America's "Top Insurance Coverage Lawyer – Pittsburgh 2010." He has been involved in all areas of civil litigation, including complex insurance coverage disputes, securities and bank litigation, and commercial disputes. Since the early 1970s, Jim has represented major defendants in asbestos bodily injury and property damage cases and, in 1985, was one of the principal negotiators and founders of the Asbestos Claims Facility. He has counseled on, negotiated, mediated, arbitrated and litigated complex insurance coverage disputes for commercial insureds, including insurance coverage for toxic torts, intellectual property claims, claims against officers and directors, and other complex business claims under primary and excess insurance policies. Jim is a frequent lecturer on insurance coverage disputes, alternative dispute resolution and asbestos litigation.
