James Joseph Maune

James Maune

is a patent attorney in Orrick’s Orange County office and a member of the Intellectual Property Group. Jim has significant experience drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications in several technical fields including: environmental control systems, tools, semiconductor probe test cards, medical devices, portable electronic device applications, computer accessories, e-commerce, and software applications.

Jim has more than 20 years of experience working in high-technology fields ranging from aerospace, ballistic missile defense, and satellite technologies from his former career as a naval aviator. He also has experience working in-house at NuVasive, Inc., an industry leader in minimally invasive spinal surgery and medical devices, and the patent office for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Pacific (SPAWAR).

James rapidly established himself as a subject matter expert in the new inter partes review (IPR) and covered business method (CBM) review proceedings within Orrick's USPTO Trial Group. He closely tracks the impact and interaction of the new proceedings with district court litigation.
