Jane Y. Cohen

Jane Cohen

is a counsel in the International Trade Practice Group, in the Washington, D.C., office of King & Spalding. Her practice focuses on U.S. export controls, embargoes and economic sanctions, and international trade policy.

Ms. Cohen advises clients in a wide array of industries on compliance with regulations administered and enforced by the United States Departments of State, Treasury and Commerce. She assists companies with classifying products on the Commerce Control List and the U.S. Munitions List, licensing exports and re‑exports of products, developing and updating internal compliance programs, preparing voluntary disclosures for violations of export controls and sanctions laws, and conducting due diligence inquiries in M&A transactions.

Prior to joining King & Spalding, Ms. Cohen was an associate in the International Trade Group of MK Technology, LLC, where she advised clients on all aspects of compliance with export controls, and embargo and sanctions laws. Her experience also includes work as an Adjunct Associate with the law firm of Nateman Kalik & Lewin, where she focused on antidumping and WTO regulations. Previously, Ms. Cohen served as a law clerk in the Office of Commissioner Carol T. Crawford of the U.S. International Trade Commission and in the Office of Chief Counsel for Import Administration of the United States Department of Commerce.

In 2000, Ms. Cohen received her J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law and her M.A. from the American University School of International Service. While at American, she also served as a Senior Note and Comment Editor for the Business Law Advisor. Ms. Cohen received her B.A., with honors, from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1996. She is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and New York and is a member of the New York State Bar Association. She is also a member of the National Council on International Trade Development (NCITD). Ms. Cohen is a native Russian speaker.
