JASON P.W. HALPERIN

Jason P.W. Halperin is of counsel in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He is an experienced trial and appellate attorney, and his practice focuses on white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations, regulatory enforcement, and litigation matters.

From 2004 to 2015, Mr. Halperin served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York. Mr. Halperin has conducted 13 federal jury trials, and has never lost a trial. He has tried numerous, high-profile cases, including the terrorism trial involving four men from Newburgh who were convicted of plotting to blow up synagogues in Riverdale, New York as well as a public corruption trial involving a Yonkers City Councilwoman and her political patron who were convicted of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud, bribery, extortion, mortgage fraud, and tax fraud.

During his tenure as a federal prosecutor, Mr. Halperin also successfully prosecuted three New York State Senators, political aides, and developers for white-collar corruption crimes and tax fraud. He has prosecuted a vast array of white-collar fraud cases, including public corruption, bank fraud, wire fraud, mortgage fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, obstruction of justice, and false statement cases.

Mr. Halperin has also had significant experience in international investigations and prosecutions. He has prosecuted international and domestic terrorism cases as well as national security cases involving unlawful exports, international money laundering, and overseas money transmitting schemes. These cases involve OFAC, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, and federal export regulations. Through his work in the national security arena, he has worked with foreign prosecutors, foreign law enforcement, and foreign intelligence agencies, as well as with the U.S. intelligence community. In 2013, Mr. Halperin won the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI)'s Counterintelligence Award for Excellence, the ODNI's highest nationwide award, for an international counterproliferation investigation. He has conducted trainings of other prosecutors and federal agents from around the country at DOJ's National Advocacy Center on counterintelligence and public corruption cases.

Mr. Halperin has extensive experience practicing before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, having briefed and argued numerous cases on appeal.

Following law school, Mr. Halperin practiced at an international law firm in New York, then served as a law clerk for Judge Ricardo M. Urbina of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and then practiced at an international law firm in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Halperin received his Juris Doctor in 1999 from New York University School of Law, where he won the Newman Prize for the most outstanding Note at the Journal of Legislation and Public Policy. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1992, graduating with honors in Political Science. At Yale, Mr. Halperin served as News Editor of the Yale Daily News. After college, Mr. Halperin worked for New York Governor Mario M. Cuomo for four years, serving for two years as the former Governor's principal staffer, advising and working with him daily. During this time, he wrote remarks for the former Governor, managed his campaign committee's business affairs, handled press, and traveled with the Governor across the country.

Mr. Halperin is admitted to practice in the States of New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia.
