Jason S. Pinney

Jason Pinney focuses his practice on securities litigation. He represents broker-dealers, investment advisers, hedge funds, private equity firms, board members and individuals in litigation, arbitrations and regulatory investigations. Jason has experience representing clients in federal and state court, as well as before the SEC, FINRA and several state securities agencies. Jason also has experience advising clients on securities laws and regulations, including public funds laws and wire fraud.

Jason is very active in pro bono matters. He is part of a Bingham team that won landmark victories representing a group of Uighur prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. All 12 of his clients were cleared of wrongdoing and ordered released. Jason also serves as counsel to MetroLacrosse, a nonprofit organization that operates the largest urban lacrosse and education program in the country. Jason also leads a team serving as counsel to the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that protects and serves the fishing community. Jason has been profiled in Above the Law, The American Lawyer and Lacrosse Magazine for his pro bono work. In 2009, he testified before the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs regarding congressional oversight at Guantanamo. In 2012, Jason was named an “Up and Coming Lawyer” by the Massachusetts Bar Association and Massachusetts Lawyer Weekly.

Jason received his J.D. magna cum laude from Boston College Law School where he was an executive editor for the Environmental Affairs Law Review and taught environmental law to undergraduates. In 2010, Jason served as a special prosecutor for the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office.
