Jeffrey A. McSorley

Jeff McSorley’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and arbitration. He has significant experience in all aspects of discovery, motion practice, and appellate practice in federal and state courts. Jeff's primary focus has been litigation arising under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and antitrust laws. He has also defended corporations facing claims under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Robinson-Patman Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and various state law causes of action, such as unfair trade practices, trade libel, breach of contract, professional negligence, and tortious interference. Jeff has extensive experience dealing with complex electronic discovery issues and has conducted training for other Jones Day associates on e-discovery. In addition, he has conducted internal corporate investigations.

Jeff is active in pro bono matters. He successfully represented a Vietnamese citizen in removal proceedings in immigration court, obtaining relief for the client under the United Nations Convention Against Torture. He defended this decision on appeal by the Department of Homeland Security up to the Executive Office for Immigration Review Board of Immigration Appeals. He obtained a preliminary injunction in D.C. Superior Court on behalf of tenants who lived in a dilapidated apartment building that required their landlord to make numerous repairs and improvements. Most recently, Jeff obtained a civil protection order in D.C. Superior Court for a victim of domestic violence following a bench trial that, among other things, enjoined the respondent from contacting the petitioner for a calendar year and awarded full custody of the parties’ child to the petitioner.
