Jinfei J. Zhang

JINFEI ZHANG is counsel in the firm’s New York office, where he practices in the Global Finance group. Mr. Zhang has an international practice focused on capital markets transactions, principally structured finance and corporate finance.

Mr. Zhang’s structured finance practice includes a wide variety of asset-backed securitizations (auto loan and lease and equipment), mortgage-backed securitizations (RMBS, CMBS and REO-to-Rental), repackaging transactions, collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) and credit-linked notes, where he represents issuers and underwriters in both public and private offerings of securities in domestic and cross-border transactions.

Mr. Zhang’s experience also includes a broad variety of corporate transactions. Mr. Zhang has represented various parties in connection with sales, acquisitions and financings of pools of distressed leveraged loans, structured finance assets and auto receivables. Mr. Zhang also represents lenders to, and managers of, hedge funds and private equity-style funds. Some of these funds have leverage structures that use both fund and CDO technology.

Mr. Zhang regularly advises Chinese corporations and financial institutions on cross-border M&A transactions, securities issuance, financing and other legal matters.

Mr. Zhang received a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School in 2005, where he assisted in revising and editing International Encyclopedia of Comparative Law. Prior to law school, Mr. Zhang was a Harvard-Yenching scholar at Harvard University in East Asian Studies and History. Mr. Zhang also served as the President of the Harvard Chinese Students and Scholars Association. Mr. Zhang received his B.A. in literature, with distinction, from Peking University in 1995 and M.A. in literature from Peking University in 1998.

Mr. Zhang is a native Mandarin speaker and a frequent contributor to Lifeweek, a leading Chinese news journal.
