John Geis is an associate and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP and a member of the Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practice as well as the Automotive and Food & Beverage Industry Teams.

Mr. Geis has prepared and prosecuted a wide variety of domestic and foreign utility and design patent applications. Foreign filings and prosecutions include China, Europe, India, Canada, Mexico, and Russia, among others. Exemplary subject matter includes faucets and valves, food products (e.g., chips, crackers, and condiment dispensers), medical devices (e.g., facial reconstruction arch bars, imaging systems, urinary incontinence treatment methods and devices), radar system display interfaces, and shoe care products. Mr. Geis has a strong interest in industrial design protection and has attended multiple Design Days at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

Before beginning his legal career, Mr. Geis was a product development engineer with Ford Motor Company. As an engineer, he was involved in diesel engine and aftertreatment development and calibration, both in-vehicle and on-dynamometer, from build to testing. Early in his career, Mr. Geis worked through several rotations on variable cam timing systems, power steering systems, and rear axle/differential systems. During law school, he was a summer associate with Foley as well as with Brooks Kushman P.C.
