John I. Sakhleh

JOHN SAKHLEH is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Sidley Austin LLP. He advises a wide array of financial services firms - broker-dealers investment advisers and hedge funds - on a broad variety of regulatory, enforcement, compliance, and transaction matters. John routinely advises clients in connection with SEC, FINRA and NFA regulatory exams, investigations and enforcement actions. John has represented numerous clients on regulatory matters in connection with mergers and acquisitions of broker-dealers and investment advisers, structuring of major business units and obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals in corporate transactions. John also has substantial experience in advising broker-dealer and investment adviser clients on compliance, trading and registration matters.

Prior to joining the firm, John worked for the SEC’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations. During his time with the SEC, John was involved with, among other things, the SEC’s market-timing and late trading, proprietary trading and best execution investigations/examinations. Prior to joining the SEC, John worked for a national law firm where he focused on investment company, investment adviser and hedge fund related issues. John also is a Certified Public Accountant. He graduated with honors from the George Washington University Law School.

John’s group has received recognition for its work on securities regulatory matters, most recently when the firm was named the U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Law Firm of the Year” in Securities Regulation. The firm also received the most first-tier national rankings, including Securities Regulation, of any U.S. law firm in the 2012/2013 U.S. News-Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” survey.
