John Hyland has extensive experience in various types of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, acquisition-related financings, joint venture arrangements, employment and compensation-related matters, distribution agreements, and other general business and commercial matters. In addition, he serves as outside counsel for numerous clients and their boards of directors. He currently serves as the Administrative Partner for the global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice and as head of the M&A Practice in the New York Office.
Mr. Hyland has been the principal lawyer in many negotiated merger and acquisition transactions. His clients include various domestic and international companies and several investment funds. Some of the more notable transactions in which he has been the primary corporate lawyer for the Firm's clients include the merger of R.H. Donnelley and Dex Media, the purchases of the Sprint Directories business and certain of the directories of SBC Communications by R.H. Donnelley, the purchase by Hachette Livre S.A. of the Time Warner Book Group, the purchase by Hachette Filipacchi Medias USA, Inc. of the former CBS Magazine Publishing, the sale by Ultramar Diamond Shamrock of its retail and pipeline assets in Michigan, the sale by Pernod Ricard of its Orangina and Yoo-hoo beverages to Cadbury Schweppes, and the sale of the New York Islanders hockey team.
For the past several years, Mr. Hyland's transactions have been featured in The American Lawyer magazine, and he has been recognized by Law & Politics as one of Manhattan's "Super Lawyers" in M&A.
