John L. Collins is a partner in the Houston office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, with a primary concentration in representing management in employment and labor law matters. He started with the firm in the Chicago office directly from law school in 1980, became partner in 1988, and relocated to help build the Houston office in 1996.

Mr. Collins has extensive experience representing employers in employment discrimination, wage hour, and labor litigation, focusing on “big case” matters. His experience includes defense of a large auto manufacturer in a 3000 member class federal court race discrimination case, a food manufacturer in an EEOC pattern and practice litigation, another large food manufacturer in a 48 plaintiff sex, disability and age discrimination federal court litigation, among other multi-plaintiff and class matters. Mr. Collins has represented employers in wage-hour collective action litigation matters involving misclassification, salary basis, and meal break issues.

In addition, Mr. Collins has extensive experience representing employers in union organizing matters, collective bargaining, labor arbitrations, and labor injunction and related litigation. He has negotiated labor agreements in the service, trucking, metalworking, newspaper and printing industries, and has tried in excess of 150 labor arbitration cases in the meatpacking, petrochemical public utilities industries, among others.
