Julie D. Wicklund

Julie D. Wicklund is Special Counsel in the Cooley Business department and the head of the International practice group. Resident in the Palo Alto office, she joined the Firm in March 1999.

She has a general business and corporate practice with a particular focus on international business transactions and mergers and acquisitions. Ms. Wicklund works extensively with U.S. corporations expanding overseas and also advises foreign corporations and investors doing business in the United States. Ms. Wicklund provides strategic advice and legal counsel to fast-growing technology and life sciences companies expanding sales, marketing, R&D and manufacturing capabilities overseas. She also advises on a broad range of cross-border joint ventures, partnering arrangements and M&A transactions involving both public and private companies. Ms. Wicklund represents global businesses setting up in the United States or conducting "flip" transactions, where a new US parent company is created in order to access U.S. venture capital or private equity financing.

Ms. Wicklund is dual-qualified as a California attorney and as a U.K. solicitor. Before joining Cooley, Ms. Wicklund qualified as a lawyer in the U.K. with Hogan Lovells, the international law firm, and also spent time on assignment to Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago. She ran the Investment Teams of the U.K. Trade and Investment offices in Atlanta and San Francisco, advising U.S. businesses on European business development through operations in the U.K..

Ms. Wicklund graduated from The College of Law in Guildford, England; completed post-graduate studies in law at Nottingham Law School, England and received her B.A. (Hons) from Middlesex University.

Ms. Wicklund is the contributing author of several publications on global expansion by U.S. businesses and is an active member of the international business community in Silicon Valley. She is a Director of the British American Business Council for Northern California and actively involved in various international business groups in California.

Ms. Wicklund is admitted in California and is also admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of California, including the International Section of the ABA. Ms. Wicklund is also a member of the Law Society of England and Wales.
