Karen A. Whitley

Karen joined the firm's Boston office in 2014 and is a member of the Labor & Employment and Litigation Practice Groups. She focuses her practice on a broad range of management-side employment counseling and litigation matters, including discrimination, wage and hour, and restrictive covenant proceedings. Working closely with HR departments and in-house counsel, Karen advises employers on legal compliance in all phases of the employment relationship, conducts internal investigations, and provides proactive training to management and staff. She provides employment law advice in connection with mergers and acquisitions, and helps employers protect their proprietary data through drafting restrictive covenants and other policies.

Prior to joining the firm, Karen was a partner at Jones Day in Boston for 4 years. Previously, Karen was with Hanify & King in Boston for 16 years. During her tenure, she successfully obtained dismissal or voluntary withdrawal of charges before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and EEOC on behalf of private employers in the banking, insurance, recruiting, education, hospitality, food manufacturing, and pharmaceutical industries. She has worked with small start-up businesses, mid-size organizations, and multi-national companies to ensure adherence with numerous federal and state laws, including the FLSA, the ADA, the FMLA, the WARN Act, and COBRA. Karen began her legal career as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court of Massachusetts.
