Kimberley C. Nobles

Kimberley Chen Nobles focuses her practice on representing technology companies worldwide in legal, technical, strategic planning, and intellectual property matters. Her practice covers a variety of business transactions and the protection, management, and monetization of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, post grant proceedings, oppositions, licensing, dispute resolution, and litigation. Kim handles and supports complex litigation and arbitration matters internationally and across the United States.

Kim also has significant experience as an arbitrator before the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland and is a former adjunct professor at the University of California, Irvine, School of Law. She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Taiwanese, and adds significant depth to the firm’s capabilities in serving the Asian market, particularly in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Singapore.

In addition, Kim has extensive experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in diverse technical areas, including communications, electronic systems and devices, semiconductor devices and processes, computer hardware and software, optical devices and components, biomedical systems, medical devices and systems, and electromechanical and mechanical devices.

Kim is additionally experienced with post-grant proceedings, including counseling in the context of overall trial strategy. She has advised clients on a number of proceedings including ex parte reexamination, inter partes reexamination, and inter partes review, and has handled such proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Kim is also experienced in conducting due diligence and evaluating intellectual property in connection with corporate mergers and acquisitions and developing intellectual property protection and patent procurement programs.

Kim also counsels clients on Internet issues and trademark matters, including privacy and data collection issues, acquiring and maintaining U.S. and foreign trademarks, conducting searches, and analyzing infringement matters. In addition, Kim handles and manages global IP enforcement matters for many Fortune 500 companies.

Kim also has an extensive and wide variety of litigation experience before courts and administrative tribunals at all levels, including cases before federal courts and the International Trade Commission, from pre-suit investigations through trial and appeal.

Prior to practicing law, Kim was a research and design engineer with Rockwell International and NASA. Her engineering experience includes research, development, and design in the areas of communication systems and electronic instrumentation on the space shuttle, space station, and space-based interceptor programs. Her professional experience also includes research in the areas of electromagnetism, antennas, and communication under grants sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

In addition to her law degree, Kim holds M.S.E.E. and B.S.E.E. degrees in Electrical Engineering.
