Michael H. Dore

Michael Dore is Of Counsel in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and a member of the Litigation Department. He is a former federal prosecutor with significant complex commercial litigation experience. Mr. Dore has litigated and advised on numerous high-profile matters in areas of securities, law firm defense, and media and entertainment litigation, among others.

From 2010 to 2015, Mr. Dore served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Central District of California. He represented the United States in nine federal criminal jury trials and argued five federal appeals before the Ninth Circuit, with two published decisions in the government's favor. A member of the Violent and Organized Crime section, Mr. Dore successfully tried several complex multi-defendant cases against organized crime figures and their associates.

These trials included the RICO convictions of two Mexican Mafia members who also led a violent gang with hundreds of members linked to murders, attempts to kill law enforcement, and a mass stabbing at a Southern California restaurant. Another of Mr. Dore's trials involved drug money moving through bank accounts in five continents and shipping containers delivered to European ports with hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, resulting in money laundering and other convictions for the leader of an Israeli crime syndicate.

Mr. Dore also investigated and successfully prosecuted numerous individuals and organizations for fraud crimes, including bank fraud, mail and wire fraud, tax fraud, and identity theft. These cases included the conviction of an investment advisor who defrauded clients of their life savings while working for one of the world's largest investment companies. Mr. Dore also secured the convictions of two high-ranking executives at an alcohol importer company on tax charges arising from a scheme to avoid paying excise taxes. In another case, Mr. Dore successfully prosecuted more than ten members of a multi-million dollar nationwide bank fraud conspiracy.

Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles, Mr. Dore spent seven years litigating matters at Gibson Dunn. During that period, he argued a Ninth Circuit appeal and obtained a published reversal of the district court. He also played significant roles in the successful defense of a major media company in a three-week arbitration involving profit participation claims regarding a syndicated television series, Intel Corporation's defense of antitrust claims by its largest competitor, and the defense of corporate executives at a large health care company in an SEC investigation and subsequent civil action.

Mr. Dore has been published in multiple journals, including the Virginia Law Review, the Marquette Law Review, and the Columbia Science & Technology Law Review, with both trial and appellate courts citing his works. He also was a co-author of the "Pleading Standards" chapter in Securities Litigation: A Practical Guide, published by PLI.

Mr. Dore received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Amherst College, where he graduated magna cum laude. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review.
