Michael K. Friedberg

Michael K. Friedberg is a Washington, D.C., senior policy advisor who is a member of the firm's Transportation Team. Mr. Friedberg focuses on developing and implementing advocacy strategies for Holland & Knight’s transportation industry clients on a wide range of issues, including economic and safety regulation of railroads, pipelines and hazardous materials.

In addition, Mr. Friedberg advises clients on developing support for infrastructure developments, especially with respect to public transit, as well as on building and managing coalitions to advocate for increased passenger rail infrastructure funding.

Mr. Friedberg most recently served as staff director of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials of the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. In this role, he served as the committee's primary advisor on passenger rail, rail safety, the economic regulation of railroads, pipeline safety and the transportation of hazardous material. He assisted Chairman Bill Shuster in managing various bills, including the Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act and the Passenger Rail Reform and Investment Act of 2015.

Previously, Mr. Friedberg served on the professional staff of the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations on both the Labor, Health and Human Services and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development subcommittees. He handled a wide range of issues involving higher education, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Amtrak and high-speed rail. He started his government career at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), where he worked on various budgetary and regulatory matters involving homeland security and higher education.

Prior to his government service, Mr. Friedberg practiced law for a large national firm.
