Norman K. Beck

Norman Beck is a partner in the Chicago office who focuses his practice on major class action and complex litigation, with an emphasis on securities and shareholder derivative liability and consumer class actions.

Mr. Beck has represented a variety of investment banks and other financial services firms in connection with securities fraud or merger-related litigation. Representative clients include J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, Goldman, Sachs & Co., Bank of America, N.A., LSV Asset Management, and the Travelers Companies Inc.

Mr. Beck also has litigated a wide spectrum of consumer class action suits. He has handled, or is currently handling, consumer class actions for clients such as Belkin International, Inc., ChoicePoint Inc. (n/k/a LexisNexis), Compaq Computer Corp., Flycell, Inc. (n/k/a Acotel Interactive), Microsoft Corp., Motorola Mobility, Inc., Moveable Cubicle, Inc., Reader’s Digest Association, Inc., Sears, Roebuck and Co., Shell Oil Corporation, SIRVA, Inc., and Verizon Wireless. These class actions have involved virtually all industry segments and a variety of state consumer fraud act statutes, federal consumer protection statutes such as the TCPA and other claims.

Mr. Beck also has represented clients in various SEC and other related regulatory matters related to securities or derivatives trading investigations. He has also worked on firm teams for various clients in corporate internal investigations and board special committee representations.

Other Matters

Mr. Beck is also often retained to advise companies in a wide variety of civil litigation matters ranging from breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, theft of trade secrets and other business disputes.

Prior to joining the firm in 1996, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. George C. Smith of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

Mr. Beck graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles in 1992, with an A.B. in Economics. Three years later, he graduated with a J.D. from Washington University School of Law. He was elected Order of the Coif and served as an editor of the Washington University Law Review.
