Phillip B. Kennedy

Phillip Kennedy is a business lawyer focusing his practice on general corporate matters, commercial transactions, corporate finance, public and private equity, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, public disclosure compliance and international law. Phillip returned to Williams Mullen in 2014 after serving as Assistant General Counsel for a global manufacturer and supplier of products used in the pulp and paper industry. Leveraging his experience as a former in-house attorney, Phillip works to quickly identify how he can support his clients’ priorities while delivering cost-effective and practical solutions.

As an in-house counsel, Phillip was responsible for a wide range of matters, including Investor Relations, advising the Board and General Counsel on corporate governance matters, NYSE compliance issues, public company reporting requirements and external litigation management. He worked hand-in-hand with management on domestic and international commercial agreements and transactions to help drive business goals and to expand the company’s reach into emerging markets. In addition, Phillip provided routine, day-to-day advice on compliance with debt covenants and assisted the tax and treasury departments on a number of international intercompany transactions.

Throughout his career, Phillip has assisted clients in several industries, including banking, retail and manufacturing, on a variety of business matters, from simple contract review to buy-side and sell-side counsel on sophisticated corporate transactions.

Phillip has been named a "Rising Star" by North Carolina Super Lawyers magazine. He received his J.D. from the University of North Carolina Law School, where he served as executive editor for the Journal of the University of North Carolina School of Law Banking Institute. He received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
