R. Anthony (Tony) Newman

Anthony (Tony) Newman is a conflicts attorney in Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP’s Office of the General Counsel. He concentrates on identifying and resolving conflicts-of-interest, reviewing engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines, and providing ethics advice to firm partners.

Mr. Newman has a background in legal ethics and conflicts resolution, as well as trusts and estate administration, financial restructuring and tax. Prior to joining Akin Gump, he was a conflicts attorney at McGuireWoods LLP in Richmond, Virginia, where he focused on new business and lateral conflicts, ethics, engagement letters, outside counsel guidelines and ethical walls, along with assisting in the creation of conflicts management software and maintaining anchor client corporate affiliate information.

Mr. Newman has a long history of community involvement and has been active in Lawyers Helping Lawyers, Equality Virginia and Human Rights Campaign. He holds an undergraduate degree from The College of William & Mary and a law degree from the University of Richmond.
