Robert C. Matthews

Robert practices in the firm’s Real Estate and Lending Practice Groups where he represents financial institutions in loan matters, and privately owned companies in a complete range of financial transactions.

Robert focuses on a wide variety of dealings, including commercial and industrial real estate, entity formation, liquidations, acquisitions, financing and internal governance. He also advises banks and individuals with the administration of estates and trusts. Robert has represented clients on claims of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of loyalty, conversion of funds, undue influence and incapacity. Additionally, Robert is a licensed title insurance agent and a continuing education instructor certified by the Alabama Real Estate Commission. His real estate practice includes negotiating and drafting purchase agreements, mortgages, deeds, leases, security devices, formal written opinions and conducting foreclosure proceedings.

Robert received his Bachelor of Science from Spring Hill College (B.S., summa cum laude, 2004). There he was the valedictorian and recipient of the Toolen Award and Ralph McClain Essay Award. Robert then went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law (J.D., 2007). While there, he received the Harold A. Bowron, Jr. Award, the Highest Achievement Labor and Employment Law Award and the Highest Achievement Advanced Will Drafting Award.

Robert received an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell. He has also been named to the Alabama Super Lawyers “Rising Star” list.

Robert is admitted by the Alabama State Bar. He is a member of the Alabama Bar Association. Furthermore, he is a Mobile Volunteer Lawyer.

In addition to his professional affiliations, Robert volunteers within his community to serve others. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA of South Alabama, Inc. and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
