William E. Devitt

Bill Devitt focuses on intellectual property litigation and technology-related transactions. He has nearly 20 years of experience litigating intellectual property matters, including trials in the federal courts and also representing clients before the International Trade Commission in Section 337 proceedings, where he has successfully defeated exclusion orders. His experience spans a variety of technical subject matters, including semiconductors, wireless communications, data storage, power equipment, nutraceuticals, and medical devices.

Bill also has significant experience representing and advising clients in connection with patent assertions and license negotiations and agreements and other strategic transactions involving technology and/or intellectual property rights. At the start of his career, Bill worked for seven years as a telecommunications engineer for the Central Intelligence Agency, where he gained extensive experience in a broad range of communication systems, including satellite and radio systems, fiber optics, microwave, network and switching systems, and encryption technology.

Bill is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Intellectual Property Owners Association. He has written on IP-related topics and has participated in numerous technology law seminars. He also served as an assistant guest professor at Tokai University School of Law in 2006, teaching a course on U.S. patent litigation.
