 Subject:  Default on loan

My brother Co-signed a persanol loan for a friend for 5000.00. They have not paid one dime on it so the loan defaulted back to co-signer (which was him). We took it to small claims court and had our fist appearance today. Trial date set for the 25th of March. What can I do to help my brother prepare the best case. Any motions that need filed? This so called friend has since quit her job and has no income at this time. Also has been in psych ward at local hospital. I represented myself in a small claims in October so I know what is going on. This is just more complex. Should my brother seek a lawyer or represent himself? michelle Springfield IL -Sangamon County
