Alyssa is a trusted advocate and advisor to exempt organizations, high net worth individuals and corporations. She has extensive experience advising nonprofit clients on entity formation, applying for and maintaining tax-exemption, and operational and governance matters. She regularly advises clients on technical matters including unrelated business taxable income, excess benefit transactions, self-dealing transactions, domestic and international grant-making, program-related investments, joint ventures and other avenues for social entrepreneurship and impact investing.

Alyssa began her career working for nonprofit organizations in both programmatic and management capacities, where she gained critical insight to the unique needs of each nonprofit and became committed to strengthening and serving the sector. During law school, she interned for the tax team at the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office and represented low-income clients in their income tax appeals through the Tax Appeals Assistance Program sponsored by the state of California. After completing law school, she successfully represented clients during the course of federal and state tax controversies before various state and federal agencies. She also spent several years as an exempt organization tax advisor at Ernst & Young where she provided tax planning, consultation and return compliance services to tax exempt entities and their individual and corporate founders.
