Bill Owens

Congressman Bill Owens is a Senior Advisor in the Public Policy and Regulation practice at Dentons. His practice focuses on advising Canadian and US clients regarding cross-border commerce, as well as providing expertise derived from his extensive experience in public office.

Congressman Owens also applies his congressional experience as part of the Firm’s Federal Government Affairs practice and State and Local Government Affairs practice in New York, with offices in New York City and Albany.

Previously, Congressman Bill Owens represented New York’s 21st Congressional District in the US House of Representatives. During his years in Congress, he developed a deep understanding of issues impacting constituents and businesses alike, including matters related to US-Canada trade and cross-border investment, health care, and agriculture, among others. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee’s Defense and Homeland Security subcommittees, Congressman Owens worked to strengthen existing resources in the region vital to job creation and the local economy, including Fort Drum and the Canadian border.

After graduating from law school, Congressman Owens entered active duty with the US Air Force and served as a captain at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. After completing his service, he built a successful practice leading a business law firm where he helped recruit businesses from Canada to Upstate New York.

Congressman Owens was recognized with The Joseph Bornstein Award as Businessperson of the Year in 2005 by the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce.
