Brian David Hershman

Brian Hershman focuses on civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense in state and federal courts. He has been lead trial counsel in more than 10 state and federal trials that proceeded to verdict and maintains an unblemished trial record.

Brian's recent experience since joining Jones Day includes prevailing in a jury trial for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and former District Attorney Steve Cooley, prevailing in a bench trial for the County of Los Angeles in a dispute concerning the proper recording of reconveyances, obtaining summary judgment for the County of Los Angeles in a dispute concerning judicial compensation, obtaining reversal of a $56.7 million tax assessment against a Fortune 500 company in a writ of mandate trial, obtaining reversal of more than $100 million in tax assessments against various online travel companies, obtaining dismissal at the pleading stage of a class action against the Metropolitan Transit Authority alleging meal and rest period violations, and prevailing in a CEQA trial on behalf of the MTA.

In 2005, Brian was awarded the Director's Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney for his successful prosecution of United States v. Meredith, a 13-week federal trial resulting in guilty verdicts against all seven defendants; he also received the Federal Law Enforcement Association's National Award of Investigative Excellence in connection with that case. He received the Prosecutorial Award for work in United States v. James Davis. Brian also is chairman of the Pro Bono Committee in Los Angeles.
