Catherine Morris Krow

is a partner in the litigation group of the San Francisco office. She is a successful trial lawyer and an expert in the area of medical causation, with extensive experience preparing and presenting scientific defenses at trial. Ms. Krow also has substantial experience representing technology clients in a variety of commerical, white collar and intellectual property disputes. Below is a representative sample of Ms. Krow's engagements.

TRIAL WORK

Products Liability Trials: Ms. Krow serves as trial counsel for Union Carbide Corporation in the defense of asbestos-related claims. Ms. Krow is responsible for preparation and presentation of the medical defenses in many of these cases, including cross-examination of experienced scientific witnesses and industrial hygienists.
Criminal Trials: Ms. Krow began trying cases as an associate seconded to the San Francisco District Attorney's office. At the DA’s office, Ms. Krow tried and won several criminal cases.

TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY

NVIDIA: Ms. Krow represented NVIDIA Corporation in its patent infringement litigation matters against Rambus relating to memory devices.
FusionStorm: Ms. Krow has served as litigation counsel for FusionStorm, one of the largest technology solutions providers in the United States. In addition to providing general commercial litigation advice, Ms. Krow represented FusionStorm in trade secret and employee solicitation cases.
Samsung (employees): Ms. Krow has represented former employees of Samsung in connection with allegations of price-fixing in the DRAM industry. This representation resulted in a ground-breaking Ninth Circuit opinion on the “act of production” doctrine, an element of the Fifth Amendment’s protection against self-incrimination. See In re Grand Jury Subpoena, 383 F.3d 905 (9th Cir. 2004).
JDS Uniphase: Prior to joining Orrick, Ms. Krow represented JDS Uniphase and its subsidiary, E-TEK Dynamics, in various patent and trade secret disputes.

CASE COORDINATION

Union Carbide Corporation (National Counsel): As national coordinating counsel for Union Carbide Corporation, Ms. Krow and the Orrick team craft and implement defense strategies for hundreds of asbestos cases across the country.

In addition to her career accomplishments, Ms. Krow is the mother of two children and the head of Orrick's Parents' Forum, a networking and mentoring organization devoted to the advancement and retention of working parents.
