Chad S. Hummel

CHAD HUMMEL is a partner in Sidley’s Century City office and a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation practice. He also serves as a co-leader of the firm’s national trial practice initiative. Chad is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has extensive experience representing clients in high-stakes, bet-the-company civil and class action litigation involving antitrust, intellectual property, false advertising and marketing, unfair competition and governmental investigations. He has been lead trial counsel in numerous high-profile cases.

Throughout his nearly three decades in private practice, Chad has successfully litigated matters in the entertainment and digital media, video game, sports, financial services and telecommunications industries for such clients as IMAX Corporation, Steve Madden, Intuit, DIRECTV, Sony Pictures, Fox, American Idol, NBC / Universal, Beachbody, Ticketmaster, IAC, AT&T and Musicmatch. Other notable representations have included co-lead trial counsel in Adderley v. National Football League Players Association for the plaintiff class of retired NFL football players against their union for failing to pay licensing royalties, lead trial counsel United States v. Anthony Pellicano (private eye to the stars) in federal criminal trial involving charges of RICO (racketeering), "honest services" wire fraud, identity theft, computer fraud and unauthorized access to government computer systems, and counsel for Roman Polanski in his criminal and extradition proceedings.

Prior to joining Sidley, Chad was Chair of the national litigation division and of firmwide strategic development of a national law firm. He has been consistently ranked among the Best Lawyers in America and a Super Lawyer in California. A frequent lecturer, Chad has also been an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law teaching advanced pre-trial advocacy. He earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and received his A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University.
