Mr. Engel’s practice focuses on energy, antitrust and complex commercial litigation. He represents clients across numerous industries in class actions, multidistrict and civil litigation involving allegations of price fixing, price discrimination, monopolization, market manipulation, unfair trade practices, patent misuse, breach of contract, fraud and RICO. He has presented numerous seminars on antitrust compliance matters and has represented clients in antitrust investigations before the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission.

Recognized by Legal 500 in its “First Tier” ranking of “Energy:litigation” firms, Mr. Engel’s energy practice includes representing oil and gas clients in matters ranging from upstream royalty disputes under the False Claims Act to downstream refined product pricing disputes under antitrust and market manipulation laws. He has been lead counsel for a major oil and gas producer in litigation seeking to halt offshore exploration and production following the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. He represents a major oil and gas producer in a class action involving California royalty owners. He advises clients on mineral resources regulations and regularly represents clients before the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and the Office of Natural Resources Revenue. He has represented clients in the natural gas, petroleum products and electric power industries involving allegations of market manipulation by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission and state agencies. He is antitrust counsel to a major energy trade association. He has represented numerous nuclear plant owners in cases involving plant equipment replacement costs.

Mr. Engel received his B.A. in Economics from Georgetown University and his J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Syracuse University.
