Courtney's practice is concentrated in the area of commercial litigation, with emphasis in insurance coverage litigation and negotiation on behalf of policyholders. Courtney has represented policyholders in directors and officers liability, professional liability and errors and omissions, employment practices liability, fidelity and surety bond, fiduciary liability, cyber liability, first person property and product liability insurance coverage trials, arbitrations and mediation proceedings throughout the country. She works with clients to manuscript individual coverage and blended policy programs and endorsements. She regularly counsels corporations and partnerships, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, boards of directors, independent directors and risk managers on insurance coverage and corporate indemnification. Courtney also assists clients in evaluating insurance coverage when obtaining or renewing coverage and during corporate due diligence. Further, Courtney litigates non insurance disputes, particularly complex commercial disputes and product liability claims.

Courtney also has more than two decades of experience working with a firm client to retain and manage outside counsel litigating on behalf of that client in a wide range of domestic and international litigation, arbitration and investigative matters, including commercial disputes, personal injury claims, and toxic torts.

In addition, Courtney speaks and writes on insurance coverage issues. She designed the Reed Smith University continuing legal education courses on insurance coverage topics and mentors many Insurance Recovery Group associates in their legal training.
