Daniel T. O Brien

Dan O'Brien practices intellectual property law, with a focus on patent litigation and intellectual property transactions. Dan's experience also includes patent prosecution, due diligence, and opinion work. These representations involve a variety of technologies, including vehicle telematics, computer architecture, 3D/4D seismology, backup and recovery software, encryption, and telecommunication systems.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Dan practiced law at an IP boutique firm in Chicago, where he litigated patents related to graphic accelerators, mobile devices, needleless stents, pacemakers, and nonwoven fabrics. He also prosecuted numerous patents related to biomedical imaging, casino gaming machines, and encryption systems.

Dan is actively involved in community service and pro bono work, including the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers and the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program. Dan was honored to serve as Jones Day Dallas' third Lend-A-Lawyer at DVAP and as a member of the Jones Day Dallas Associate Pro Bono Committee. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Dallas Bar Association IP Section, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Dan also serves on the University of Illinois College of Law Alumni Board.

Prior to practicing law, Dan worked as a network engineer for a leading provider of software and services in the telecommunications industry. He was part of an infrastructure group responsible for the design, installation, security, and support of an international voice and data network.
