David is counsel in Reed Smith's Appellate Group, where he focuses on civil appeals, writs, and complex law and motion matters in state and federal courts. His work has spanned an array of substantive areas, including class action, product liability, lender/borrower, trade secret, employment, consumer fraud and unfair competition, real estate, administrative law, and general commercial disputes. He has filed briefs and/or argued matters in the United States and California Supreme Courts; the Second, Fourth, Eighth, and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals, and state intermediate appellate courts in California, New York, Illinois, Minnesota, Hawaii, Washington, New Mexico, and Idaho.
David frequently advises trial lawyers during lower court proceedings to develop trial strategies and to maximize the chances for prevailing on appeal. In this role, David works side-by-side with trial lawyers to prepare dispositive motions, trial briefs, motions in limine, jury instructions, and post-trial motions.
David graduated from Loyola Law School, where he was an Articles Editor for the Loyola Law Review. He writes about appellate practice and is a lecturer for California Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB). David is member of the Clinical Faculty at Stanford Law School's Trial Advocacy Program and devotes his pro bono time to representing indigents seeking political and religious asylum.
