David N. Slone PhD

David Slone, Ph.D., focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling. He has developed expertise in a wide range of sophisticated technologies, and has spent his legal career securing and analyzing patents in such technologies as software, electronics, image processing, nanotechnology and optics, including optical networking, optical systems and lens design. Dr. Slone has written and prosecuted key patents in microprocessor and bus architectures, computer user interfaces and color management.

Dr. Slone has counseled and represented clients in numerous licensing transactions and negotiations, representing both licensors and licensees. He has provided strategic behind-the-scenes counseling, both in advising clients how to evaluate and minimize the risks of infringing other parties' intellectual property rights, and in helping clients fashion their intellectual property rights so as to maximize their competitive value. He has assisted clients in improving their in-house intellectual property programs and has made presentations on that subject to groups of executives, engineers and scientists.

Dr. Slone is particularly interested and knowledgeable in patent law and procedure, and for a number of years taught classes to young lawyers in the firm as part of the firm's in-house training program. These classes included preparing patent applications and substantive areas of patent law, especially the intricate areas relating to prior art.
