Deborah L. Stein

Deborah L. Stein is a Partner in the Litigation Department at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. She practices in the Firm’s Los Angeles office, where she represents clients in a broad range of high-stakes litigation. Deborah’s areas of concentration include insurance coverage, securities, complex business litigation, consumer class actions and False Claims Act litigation. Deborah also routinely advises insurance companies on significant coverage issues. In addition, Deborah represents clients in professional liability claims asserted against lawyers and law firms.

Deborah is a member of the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles. She has been recognized as one of the “Top 75 Women Litigators” in California by the Daily Journal, and was named as a Southern California “Rising Star” by the Law & Politics and Los Angeles magazines from 2005 to 2008. In 2012, Deborah was recognized by Law360 as a “Rising Star” for Insurance. Deborah is frequently asked to speak and write on insurance coverage issues and has authored a regular column for the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journals.

Deborah received a B.A. from Yale University in 1995, with a double major in political science and studies in environment. She obtained her J.D., cum laude, from the New York University School of Law in 1999, where she served as a Notes Editor on the New York University Law Review. Prior to joining the Firm in 2001, Deborah served as a law clerk for the Hon. Peter C. Dorsey in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Deborah was admitted to the State Bar of New York in 2000 and the State Bar of California in 2003. She is also admitted and practices in numerous federal jurisdictions across the country.
