Edward M. Koch

Edward Koch focuses his practice on general defense litigation in state and federal courts in the areas of insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, consumer class actions, medical professional liability, insurance professional liability and products liability. Ed defends insurance companies, healthcare professionals, insurance professionals, and manufacturers and distributors of products throughout the litigation process, with a particular emphasis on the increasingly unique and focused discipline of post-trial and appellate practice. The breadth of his practice allows him to counsel clients and lawyers alike on cases involving multi-disciplinary substantive and procedural areas of the law and, as a result, Ed’s assistance is often solicited for the firm’s high-profile and high-exposure cases. Ed has successfully defended clients in cases involving multi-million and, in some cases, multi-billion dollar exposures.

Ed is a prolific author and lecturer on issues such as appellate practice and procedure, expert testimony motion practice, indemnity contracts, insurance claims handling, insurance coverage, legal ethics, legal writing, oral argument, releases, joint and several liability and trial evidence. Ed is also frequently called upon to author amicus curiae briefs in the appellate courts on issues of far-ranging significance to the defense community.

Ed also conceived and created various educational programs offered by the firm, including the weekly Court Crier® electronic newsletter, the biennial Healthcare Summit and the firm’s monthly Lunch and Learn Program.
