Finity E. Jernigan


Finity E. Jernigan is an associate in the Denver office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where she practices in the firm's Litigation Department. Her practice focuses primarily on complex civil litigation and SEC enforcement proceedings.

For example, Ms. Jernigan recently assisted in the representation of an accounting firm and employee auditors in an SEC Enforcement investigation and administrative proceeding involving an audit in the financial services industry during the financial crisis. She has successfully assisted a major self-regulatory organization in negotiating a settlement with the SEC, and has advised clients in connection with rulemaking and the federal Freedom of Information Act. And, she has represented a major energy company in multiple federal court actions arising out of multi-billion dollar environmental litigation.

Ms. Jernigan also has an active pro bono practice through which she has successfully represented an applicant for political asylum in a dispositive merits hearing that achieved asylum for her client. She works with the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center to provide pro bono representation to children in need.

In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Jernigan serves as an adjunct instructor in the Center for Education on Social Responsibility at the University of Colorado, Leeds School of Business, where she co-teaches an Introduction to Business course.

Before joining Gibson Dunn, Ms. Jernigan served as a law clerk to the Honorable David C. Godbey in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

She earned her law degree, with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law in 2008, where she served as Administrative Editor of the Texas Law Review, Executive Director of the Texas Law Review Association, and teaching assistant for Legal Research and Writing courses. She earned a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Texas A&M University in 2003, with a major in English, and minors in Business and Spanish. Ms. Jernigan has also studied Mexican business and constitutional law and is proficient in Spanish.

Ms. Jernigan is a member of the State Bar of Colorado and the State Bar of Texas. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the District of Colorado and the Northern District of Texas.
