George A. Stohner

George A. Stohner is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Labor and Employment Practice. Mr. Stohner's practice encompasses a variety of employment law matters, including systemic employment litigation and other complex litigation, labor and employment counseling, and labor negotiations. As the founder of Morgan Lewis's Systemic Employment Litigation team, Mr. Stohner has experience leading trials and complex employment litigation teams, including successfully defending against numerous employment discrimination cases, particularly those involving class claims.

Mr. Stohner joined Morgan Lewis in 1977, and relocated to New York in 1987 to establish that office's labor and employment practice. Because of his substantive background and commitment to the firm, he was asked to assume the role of West Coast Practice Leader after the firm's significant West Coast expansion in 2003. Most recently, Mr. Stohner established a presence in Chicago, where he now maintains his principal office. He is involved in significant class action employment litigation in jurisdictions across the Midwest, including Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio.

Mr. Stohner's practice covers all areas of labor and employment law and involves the representation of employers, both unionized and non-unionized, in many industrial settings, including the broadcasting, entertainment, advertising, financial services, telecommunications, steel, construction, transportation, pharmaceutical, and hospitality industries.

Mr. Stohner is also a member of Morgan Lewis’s Washington Strategic Government Relations and Counseling Practice. He previously worked in the government arena and has been involved in litigation matters involving the government. He contributes a deep understanding of the nexus between public relations, public affairs, and government regulation as those issues arise in the context of high-profile litigation.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Stohner served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division of the Washington, D.C., U.S. Attorney's Office, where he was responsible for defending the government in major lawsuits challenging personnel and labor/employment-related matters. Before his service in the U. S. Attorney's Office, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate Corps during which time he represented the Department of the Army in civil rights litigation as a member of the U. S. Army's litigation team stationed at the Pentagon.

Mr. Stohner is admitted to practice in Illinois, the District of Columbia, California, and New York.
