James W. Dejmek

James Dejmek

is an intellectual property partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP where he works primarily on complex IP cases with a focus on patent infringement litigation. Jim also counsels clients on intellectual property matters before litigation has commenced.

Jim has represented clients in cases involving such diverse technologies as smartcards and smartcard manufacturing; digital camera technology; streaming media delivery systems; dental curing lights and composites; diesel combustion; semiconductor memories; medical devices and restorative surgical techniques; broadcast monitoring systems; and automated telephone processing systems.

Jim has experience in various phases patent infringement litigation including, pre-filing investigations; taking and defending depositions of key witnesses; working with technical experts on issues relating to invalidity and noninfringement; developing technology tutorials for the Court; analyzing and developing claim construction positions and arguments, including claim construction briefing; and summary judgment briefing.

Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis, Jim worked as an electrical engineer for 19+ years at Motorola, Inc. where he was involved in hardware/software development and architecture activities for base transceiver systems.

Jim is also a registered patent attorney.
