Under John Allcock’s leadership, the firm’s patent litigation group has handled more than 250 cases over the past seven years, and has achieved 28 out of 35 patent trial wins since 2002 (in both District Courts and the ITC). John has been lead trial counsel in more than 70 cases tried to juries, including 40 patent litigation trials, with more than 80 percent of the cases resulting in favorable verdicts. He is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and a member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates.
John’s most notable victories in the patent area include a defense verdict for Sophos, Inc. in a case involving data security software; a defense verdict for St. Jude Medical in a medical device case; a $16 million dollar verdict for Abbott Labs (now Abbvie) in one of the only ANDA cases to be tried to a jury for damages; a $26 million jury verdict in a patent and Semiconductor Chip Act case (Brooktree v. AMD); trial of a semiconductor patent case in the ITC (Fujitsu v. Samsung); an ITC win in a six-patent case (Hewlett-Packard Company v. Gateway); and multimillion-dollar verdict in a software patent case (Adobe v. Macromedia).
