Jonah E. McCarthy focuses on complex civil and white collar criminal litigation, as well as the representation of corporations in internal and government investigations.

Mr. McCarthy has represented companies and individuals in a variety of matters related to federal criminal and regulatory enforcement, including defending organizations and individuals in securities fraud, health care fraud, mail and wire fraud, and public corruption investigations and cases. Mr. McCarthy’s federal criminal jury trial experience includes participating in the defense of a client charged with securities fraud, and second-chairing a multi-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Mr. McCarthy also has represented clients in a variety of complex civil litigation matters before federal and state courts and arbitration proceedings involving allegations of breach of contract, fraud, construction defects, federal contract irregularities, defamation, and discrimination.

Mr. McCarthy’s pro bono work has included defending two college journalists in a defamation action and representing a Navy veteran in a federal Tort Claims Act case, which was appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. McCarthy received his B.A. magna cum laude in political science in 2001 from the University of California, Irvine, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is the former co-chair of the Young Lawyers and Law Students Subcommittee of the Antitrust Litigation Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation.
