Jonathan M. Bockman

Jonathan Bockman’s practice concentrates on domestic and international patent prosecution, portfolio management, IP due diligence, patent infringement and validity determinations, and IP litigation support. His clients range from some of the largest domestic and international companies to early stage start-ups.

Mr. Bockman has experience in a wide variety of technology areas, including advanced materials, semiconductors, medical devices, consumer electronics, Internet and software. Mr. Bockman is co-chair of the firm’s Advanced Materials Group. His work in this area includes experience with nano technology, polymer chemistry and composite materials. His clients include Dyson, Toray Plastics (America) and Konica Minolta.

Mr. Bockman is a member of the firm’s U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (PTO) Trial Practice Group. In this capacity, he handles inter partes review and post-grant review proceedings that were introduced by the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act. He has also handled many disputes for clients in front of the PTO, including inter partes reexaminations, ex partes reexaminations and over half a dozen patent interferences.

Mr. Bockman is recognized as an “IP Star” in Managing Intellectual Property’s 2014 rankings. He currently serves as the Northern Virginia representative to the firm’s Patent Operations Committee. In this capacity, he makes decisions regarding the operation of the Patent Group, both locally and firmwide.

While earning his J.D., Mr. Bockman was the associate editor of the University of Colorado Law Review.
