Marques O. Peterson

Marques Peterson serves as Of Counsel at Vedder Price and is a member of the Government Contracts practice group in the firm’s Washington, DC office.

Mr. Peterson has extensive experience in all aspects of government contracts including international public procurement. He has represented small, mid-sized and large defense and civilian businesses in post-award bid protest disputes, claims and investigations, government contract compliance issues, anticorruption issues, international government and commercial sales, mergers and acquisitions, international sanctions compliance, contract disputes and export control compliance.

In addition to representing clients before the Court of Federal Claims, the Government Accountability Office, the Boards of Contract Appeals, and federal and state courts, Mr. Peterson has represented major U.S. government contractors in significant international arbitrations.

Mr. Peterson began his career in the Air Force Office of General Counsel at the Pentagon, where he spent four years on active duty. There, he counseled senior leaders in services contracting and space acquisitions. Following his service, Mr. Peterson entered private-practice in the government contracts group at a large firm in DC.

Mr. Peterson is an active author and presenter in the government contracts field. He has written for various publications on issues such as foreign military sales, government contractor tort liability, trade issues and emerging markets, and the Buy American Act and Trade Agreements Act. He is an instructor in government contracts courses for the Public Contracting Institute, covering topics such as foreign military sales, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, export controls, and offsets. He serves in leadership positions for the American Bar Association’s Public Contract Law Section’s International Procurement Committee. Mr. Peterson holds a Top Secret security clearance.
Mr. Peterson has been recognized from 2014-2016 as a “Rising Star” by Washington DC Super Lawyers in Government Contracts.
