Paul N. Garinger

Paul N. Garinger is of counsel in Barnes & Thornburg’s Columbus office and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and Pipeline Practice Team. He concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation before state and federal trial and appellate courts.

Mr. Garinger has focused his practice in the area of oil and gas law and pipeline related issues. Mr. Garinger’s commercial litigation clients have included a multinational energy company in a large-scale federally regulated pipeline project across the state of Ohio, oil and gas exploration and production companies, midstream pipeline companies, and other oil and gas service companies active in the Marcellus and Utica Shale regions in eastern North America. In addition to his pipeline and oil and gas practice, Mr. Garinger’s complex litigation experience includes representing employers, financial institutions, construction companies, political subdivisions and other commercial clients before state and federal courts and regulatory agencies.

Mr. Garinger also has construction industry experience. He has served as outside general counsel for a roofing company, handling their litigation, internal employment and subcontractor issues. He has litigated subcontractor lien claims pertaining to large pipeline construction projects. Mr. Garinger also has represented architects and engineers in construction disputes involving commercial projects, as well as political subdivisions and municipalities in construction disputes with contractors.

Active in the community, Mr. Garinger is a member of the Energy Mineral Law Foundation, Ohio Oil and Gas Association-Midstream Subcommittee, Ohio State Bar Association’s Natural Resource Law Committee, Columbus Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. He has also been recognized as a Rising Star by Ohio Super Lawyers in the 2012, 2013 and 2016 editions.

Mr. Garinger earned his J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2005 and his B.A., summa cum laude, from Capital University in 1999. He has also completed three years of coursework toward a Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University.

In addition to being admitted to practice in Ohio, West Virginia and the District of Columbia, Mr. Garinger is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth and Federal Circuits.
