Robert M. (Bobby) Preston is a Shareholder in Greenspoon Marder’s New York Office where he is the Chair of the Matrimonial and Family Law Group. For over 25 years, Mr. Preston has handled highly complex domestic relations cases and appeals. He has conducted a substantial number of custody and financial trials relating to all phases of family law in the Supreme and Family Courts in New York City and its surrounding counties. He has represented individuals from all walks of life including celebrities, professional athletes, CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies, elected officials and executives in the finance sector such as hedge funds, private equity firms and investment banks. He practices in the Courts of all five boroughs of New York City, Westchester County and both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, where he practiced exclusively for the first 10 years of his career.
Mr. Preston was born and raised in the Bronx, New York and is a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science. He received a Bachelor’s Degree with Honors from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1987, and graduated from Brooklyn Law School, also with honors, in June, 1990. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in February, 1991 and the New Jersey State Bar in December, 1990, and is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern Federal District of New York.
Mr. Preston is a Fellow of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). Effective July, 2016, he will serve on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) as co-chair of the Family Court Subcommittee. He also serves by appointment as Chair of the Legislative Subcommittee for the Matrimonial Committee of the New York City Bar. He has served as a court-appointed Early Neutral Evaluator for the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Nassau for matrimonial matters, as well as a fee dispute arbitrator for the Suffolk County Bar Association. From 1997-2000, he was an investigator/ member of the Committee on Grievances for the Nassau County Bar Association.
Mr. Preston is a frequent lecturer at CLE programs around New York hosted by the AAML, NYSBA as well as the New York Law Journal. In September of 2015, he co-hosted a webinar for the NYLJ entitled “Valuation Discounts: Applications in Matrimonial & Fair Value Business Divorce Litigation.”
In January 2016, Mr. Preston received the 2015 “Volunteer of the Year” award from the New York
Women’s Bar Association Matrimonial Pro Bono Project.
He has an ‘AV’ Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell—the highest possible rating in both
legal ability and ethical standards. In 2011 he was recognized as a “Top Attorney” in the New York Metro Area for Family Law and was named to the New York Super Lawyers-Metro Edition from 2009 through 2016. He has been quoted in the New York Law Journal (February 8, 2012) and the Wall Street Journal (December 24, 2012) on issues pertaining to matrimonial law. His former firm was cited as a tier one Matrimonial firm in the NY metropolitan area by US News and World Report.
