William J. Sauers is a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C. office, where he practices in the Intellectual Property Group. Mr. Sauers has extensive trial experience including numerous complex, high-stakes litigations in patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, copyright infringement, trademarks, and contractual matters involving intellectual property rights.

His recent trials include representation of a medical device company in a patent infringement litigation that resulted in a jury verdict of infringement and an award of over $34 million for his client, representation of a large chemical company in a trade secret litigation that resulted in a damages award of over $900 million for his client after a seven-week jury trial, and representation of a real estate entity in a copyright infringement litigation that resulted in a finding of infringement and a multi-million dollar award for his client after a bench trial.

Mr. Sauers leverages his litigation experience to counsel clients on developing and protecting intellectual property portfolios, including the identification, protection, licensing, and enforcement of trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. His has particular experience in trademark development, prosecution and clearance, and proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, building on his time as an attorney in the trademark division of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
