Yong Lu

Yong Lu is an associate in the Patent Counseling and Prosecution Group and a member of the Firm's Litigation Department. He joined the Firm in 2006 and is a resident in the Washington, DC office.

Mr. Lu's practice focuses on patent procurement, portfolio development, strategic planning, licensing, due diligence review and other transation related patent analysis. He counsels clients in a broad range of chemical and pharmaceutical technologies including active pharmaceutical compounds (small molecules/new chemical entities), crystalline/polymorph materials, deuterated analogs, methods of treatment/dosing regimen, combo therapy, controlled-release pharmaceutical formulations, liposomal drug delivery formulations, inhalable drug formulation/device, transdermal drug formulation/device, food and beverage additives and compositions (tastants and flavor enhancers), optical labeling compounds, biopolymer materials or polymer coatings, and detergents and cleaning compositions.

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Lu was a Patent Agent at Scully, Scott, Murphy and Presser specializing in patent procurement and counseling in chemistry-related technologies including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, polymeric materials, surfactants and cleaning formulations, metal alloys, implantable medical devices, chemical processes, and semiconductors and semiconductor fabrication processes. Previously, Mr. Lu was a medicinal chemist at the Oncology Department of Pfizer Global Research and Development focusing on design, synthesis, and characterization of various novel anti-cancer compounds. He is familiar with modern analytical chemistry technology and instruments and is proficient in computer literature and database search. During his graduate studies at University of Notre Dame, Mr. Lu designed, synthesized and evaluated various siderophore-drug conjugates as novel antibiotic agents.

Mr. Lu received his JD and Intellectual Property Certificate from the University of Connecticut, School of Law in 2006 and graduated with Honors. He received his MS in Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry from University of Notre Dame in 1999; his BS in Chemistry from Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, China in 1993.

At the University of Connecticut School of Law, Mr. Lu was named Intellectual Property Honors Program Fellow in 2003 and received CALI Excellence Award for the Future in Civil Procedure in 2002. Mr. Lu received Shandong University Academic Excellence Scholarship from 1990 to 1993.

Mr. Lu is a member of the American Chemical Society since 1997 and a member of the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association since 2002.
