David G. Heiman

Dave Heiman has practiced in the bankruptcy and restructuring area for more than 30 years (founding Jones Day's practice in 1984) and has played a key role in many of the largest chapter 11 and out-of-court business restructurings in the United States. His practice is broad-based and diversified and includes the representation of debtors, lenders, creditors, and purchasers of distressed assets. Currently, he is leading the Firm's New York Cross-Practice Initiative on distressed situations.

Dave's representative chapter 11 and out-of-court debtor representations include: Allied Stores and Federated Department Stores (also as acquirer of R.H. Macy), Boscov's Department Stores, Burlington Industries, Cardinal Industries, Child World, Chrysler LLC, Imperial Home Decor Group, Kendavis Industries, LTV, Oglebay Norton, Pillowtex, Tribune Companies, USG, and White Motor. In addition, he has represented lenders in the Carmike Cinemas, Olympia & York, and Phar-Mor restructurings and creditors in the Allegheny Health, Education and Research Foundation; Home Place; and Paragon Trade Brands restructurings. He has advised numerous acquirors of distressed assets, including American Greetings and WL Ross & Co., in various matters including American Home Mortgage, Bethlehem Steel, Collins & Aikman, and Horizon National Resources.

Dave is past chair of the American College of Bankruptcy and a member of The American Law Institute. He is a member of the ABA (past Executive Council of the Business Law, Litigation and General Practice Sections and past chairman of the Commercial Financial Services Committee). Currently, he is a Co-Chair of the Governance Advisory Board of the ABI Study on Chapter 11.
