Gordon R. Alphonso

Gordon is former co-chair of the energy and environmental department and former chair of the land use and environmental department. He provides environmental representation, counseling and litigation services to corporations on legislative, regulatory and judicial matters under state and federal environmental laws, with an emphasis on air and solid and hazardous waste issues. His practice covers day-to-day compliance matters, permitting, enforcement defense and assessment of potential environmental liabilities in connection with corporate transactions.

Gordon’s practice focuses on compliance counseling, permitting and enforcement proceedings under the laws governing air, superfund (CERCLA) and waste (RCRA). He routinely provides strategic advice to property owners on issues arising from hazardous substance or petroleum contamination of their property, including indoor air quality affected by vapor intrusion from the existing contamination.

Gordon’s experience includes nine years serving as chief counsel for one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of tissue, packaging, paper, pulp, and building products and related chemicals. He also held the position of assistant attorney general for the State of Georgia for six and a half years.
