Jay Swanson is of counsel in the Trusts & Estates Department of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.
Mr. Swanson’s practice is focused on tax-exempt organizations and charitable gift planning. In addition to his experience in private practice, he formerly served as Manager of Planned Giving and special counsel in the Office of Public Affairs and Development at The New York Public Library.
Mr. Swanson has co-authored several articles on charitable giving and fundraising. He is a former member of the national Board of Directors of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. He serves on the Advisory Committee of the Studio in a School Association, which provides art instruction in New York City public schools.
Mr. Swanson is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and was a member of its Committee on Nonprofit Organizations from 2011 through 2013. He has also been a member of the Government Relations Committee of the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York for the past several years.
Mr. Swanson graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Amherst College. He received an M.A. in comparative literature from Harvard University and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School.
